Key points

  • Thailand’s SEC filed a criminal complaint against BG Limited for operating Bitget without a license between 2022 and 2025.
  • Access to Bitget’s website, associated domains and mobile app will be blocked from Dec. 5 after the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society received the regulator’s notice.

Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a criminal complaint against BG Limited, the operator of the Bitget crypto exchange, for offering trading services without a license. The regulator notified the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to block access to the platform’s website, related domains and mobile app starting Dec. 5. Users have been advised to move assets off the exchange before the cutoff.

What happened

The SEC said Bitget provided crypto trading services to Thai users from 2022 through 2025, collected trading fees and promoted its platform via Thai-language websites and social-media channels. These activities, the regulator stated, breached Thailand’s digital-asset licensing rules. The complaint was lodged with the Economic Crime Suppression Division, which will investigate before prosecutors decide on charges and courts determine liability.

Regulatory backdrop

Under a 2025 decree, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society can restrict access to unlicensed crypto platforms to protect investors and curb financial crime. The SEC used this authority to request the Dec. 5 block. Bitget did not respond to Cointelegraph’s request for comment.

User impact

The regulator urged customers to withdraw or transfer holdings ahead of the deadline. Once the block is in place, Thai users will be unable to reach Bitget through its main site, associated domains or mobile app.

What to watch

  • Dec. 5 access block takes effect
  • Any follow-up statements from Bitget
  • Next steps by Economic Crime Suppression Division
