Copper, Tin Fall With Base Metals on Renewed AI Stocks Selloff

Copper futures (COMEX): price over the last sessions

Base metals prices slipped as traders linked the move to renewed pressure on AI-related equities, while two separate corporate and regulatory moves in Europe and Congo added fresh supply signals.

MoneyTurkey Commodities Desk | 3 November 2026

Key points

  • Copper and tin led base metals lower after renewed selling in AI-linked stocks, according to Bloomberg.
  • ACG Metals agreed a $220-million all-share deal to buy Blue Moon Norway, adding the Nussir copper project and targeting combined output above 50,000 tonnes of copper equivalent by 2029.

Base metals prices fell on renewed selling in AI-related equities, Bloomberg reported. Copper and tin led the decline, with traders citing the equity move as the main driver. Two separate developments added supply signals: ACG Metals’ planned acquisition of Norwegian copper assets and a widening enforcement sweep in Congo.

What happened

Bloomberg said copper and tin led the base metals lower after renewed pressure on AI-linked stocks. The move came without a clear shift in physical supply or demand data, leaving positioning and equity sentiment as the cited drivers.

Separately, ACG Metals announced a $220-million all-share deal to acquire Blue Moon Norway AS, including a 94.52% stake in the Nussir copper project in northern Norway. The London-listed company said the transaction would combine Nussir with its Gediktepe mine in Türkiye and push combined annual copper-equivalent output above 50,000 tonnes by 2029.

In Congo, authorities seized more than 500 trucks and other vehicles and machinery during operations in Lualaba and Haut-Katanga provinces, the justice ministry said. The commission also confiscated thousands of tonnes of copper and cobalt at several sites, including Menda on Eurasian Resources Group concessions.

What is driving prices

Bloomberg attributed the price fall to renewed selling in AI-related equities rather than a change in physical market balances. No new inventory or demand figures were cited in the report.

On the supply side, ACG said Nussir is fully permitted, under construction and scheduled for first copper concentrate in the first half of 2028. A feasibility study outlines a 13-year mine life to 2041, with measured and indicated resources of 28.72 million tonnes grading 1.02% copper and proven and probable reserves of 24.98 million tonnes at 0.81% copper. The company forecasts average annual output of 18,400 tonnes of copper equivalent between 2029 and 2033 on a 100% basis.

In Congo, the justice ministry said the seizures followed suspected mining fraud, unauthorised exploitation and mineral smuggling. The action targets concessions held by major international companies and follows earlier suspensions and detentions of foreign nationals in Kolwezi.

Why it matters

Traders watch equity sentiment as a short-term driver for base metals when physical data are quiet. Bloomberg’s link between AI-stock selling and the price move gives one concrete explanation for the session’s decline.

The ACG deal adds a European-sourced copper project at a time when the EU has designated Nussir a strategic project under its Critical Raw Materials Act. ACG said it plans to retain the existing workforce and continue consultations with local communities and Sámi representatives.

Congo is the world’s largest cobalt producer and second-largest copper producer. Enforcement actions that affect output on major concessions can tighten near-term supply even if the long-term impact on global trade flows is not yet quantified.

Next steps

ACG must still secure financing to complete Nussir, bring Gediktepe to full commercial production in the first quarter of 2027 and ramp both assets to the stated targets. The company also plans to evaluate satellite deposits, including Keşkek, subject to regulatory approval.

Congo’s investigation continues. The justice ministry said police, military and mines ministry officials remain active at multiple sites in the copper belt.

What to watch

  • Bloomberg updates on AI-equity flows and any follow-through in base metals pricing
  • ACG financing announcements and any update on the remaining minority stake in Nussir
  • Congo justice ministry statements on further seizures or detentions
  • Any official output data from Eurasian Resources Group’s Metalkol operation
